Samsung's Android line, launched in 2009, that made the company the world's largest smartphone maker.
The first Galaxy phone (the i7500) arrived in 2009, but it was the Galaxy S in 2010 that put the line on the map. Galaxy now spans everything from the budget A series to the flagship S, the stylus-equipped Note and the folding Z models. Samsung became, and stayed, the largest Android vendor — often bigger than all the others combined.
Inside, Galaxy is a showcase of Samsung's vertical integration: its own Exynos chips (or Qualcomm, depending on the market), ISOCELL camera sensors, in-house displays and the One UI skin over Android. Owning both the component and the product is unusual in an industry where most firms buy everything in.
