Visual ML platform that began life as a university project called YALE and ended up part of Altair.

It began in 2001 at TU Dortmund as YALE (Yet Another Learning Environment), written by Ingo Mierswa, Ralf Klinkenberg and others. The company Rapid-I was founded in 2007 and renamed RapidMiner in 2013. Like KNIME, it builds machine learning as a visual flow of operators, aiming to let non-programmers train models. After years of competing for the same "citizen data scientist" customers, it was acquired by simulation giant Altair in 2022 and lives on as Altair AI Studio — the usual fate of a standalone ML tool: becoming a tab in someone else's suite.
