Samsung's own smartphone OS from 2010 that never threatened Android and melted into Tizen in 2013.

Bada was Samsung's attempt to build its own mobile operating system rather than lean entirely on Android. It launched in 2010 on the Wave phones and could run on top of either a real-time kernel or a Linux kernel depending on the hardware. The name means "ocean" in Korean.

The problem was a classic one: no apps, no users; no users, no app developers. Bada never found a foothold between Android and the iPhone, and in 2013 Samsung merged the project into the Intel-backed Tizen. Parts of bada live on there — in Galaxy watches and smart TVs rather than phones.
