American maker of discrete semiconductors and passive components, founded by a Holocaust survivor.
Started in 1962 in Pennsylvania by Felix Zandman, who had survived the Holocaust hidden in a pit and went on to invent the precision foil resistor. He named the firm after Vishay, the Lithuanian village his family came from. Vishay grew through a long string of acquisitions — Dale, Sprague, Siliconix, Vitramon — and today makes both discrete semiconductors (diodes, MOSFETs, rectifiers) and passives: resistors, capacitors and inductors.
The foil resistors that gave it its name are still among the most accurate money can buy.
