Nuvei
Canadian payments processor that was taken private in 2024, having first become the country's largest tech IPO to date.
It started in 2003 in Montréal as Pivotal Payments, founded by Philip Fayer, and renamed itself Nuvei in 2019. The company acquires card payments and plugs in local payment methods across more than 200 markets, from credit cards to e-wallets.
Its 2020 listing was, at the time, the largest technology IPO in Canadian history. Four years on, private-equity firm Advent International bought the company off the market for roughly $6.3 billion. Nuvei is especially strong in iGaming and digital services — segments more cautious processors tend to avoid — and plays in the same league as Adyen, Worldpay and Checkout.com.
