An Amsterdam messaging platform that renamed itself Bird and promised to cut prices by ninety percent.

Robert Vis founded MessageBird in Amsterdam in 2011, and through the 2010s it grew into one of Europe's largest platforms for business SMS, voice and chat channels. It bought the realtime service Pusher in 2020 and the email provider SparkPost in 2021, aiming for the combined breadth of Twilio and SendGrid.

In 2024 it rebranded as Bird, slashed its SMS prices in an openly declared attack on Twilio, and announced in the same breath that much of the company would move out of the Netherlands, citing Dutch tax and skilled-migration rules. Few companies have managed to fit a price war and a relocation into one press release.
