A Croatian company that sends half the world's login codes and delivery alerts from a small town in Istria.

Infobip was founded in 2006 in Vodnjan, a town of a few thousand people outside Pula, and started out selling bulk SMS to businesses in regions where the American players hadn't bothered to connect to local carriers. That route led to direct links with hundreds of operators and, eventually, channels like WhatsApp, RCS, voice and email.

In 2020 it raised its first outside money and became Croatia's first unicorn. A year later it bought the US firm OpenMarket from Amdocs, a clear move onto Twilio's home turf. Infobip also runs the Shift developer conference in Zadar — an unusual bit of visibility for a company whose product is mostly noticed when it breaks.
