Remote-management controller (BMC)

Dell's embedded remote-management controller in PowerEdge servers — HP's iLO, but from Dell.

integrated Dell Remote Access Controller, iDRAC, is the BMC Dell builds into its PowerEdge servers. It descends from the DRAC cards (Dell Remote Access Card) of the late 1990s, but became a controller embedded on the motherboard with the eleventh generation of PowerEdge around 2008. Like all lights-out solutions it has its own processor and network port and answers even when the operating system is down.

Through a web interface, IPMI and Redfish an admin can control power remotely, mount virtual media and view the console. The most powerful features hide behind Enterprise and Datacenter licenses — just as with HP's iLO.
