It began as "pay what you want" bundles with a slice to charity and became a store and a subscription.

The first Humble Indie Bundle in 2010 let buyers name their own price for a sack of indie games and split the money themselves between developers, Humble and charity — an arrangement that pulled in surprising sums. The model was repeated with games, books and software, and joined by the Humble Store and the Humble Choice subscription. Media group Ziff Davis (via IGN) bought the company in 2017, after which the charity share became more constrained and drew some criticism. Still one of the larger channels for indie publishing.
