EA's in-house game engine from DICE — built for Battlefield's destructible environments, later forced onto EA's entire catalogue.

Sweden's DICE built Frostbite for Battlefield: Bad Company (2008), with destructible terrain and buildings as its signature. EA then made it the company-wide standard: FIFA/EA Sports FC, Need for Speed, Dragon Age: Inquisition and Mass Effect: Andromeda all ran on it.

It became notorious that the engine was tuned for shooters — studios making role-playing games fought tools that weren't built for the job. It is never licensed externally.
