Process materials and contamination control

The company that supplies the cleanliness rather than the machines — the filters, canisters and chemistry that keep a fab free of dirt.

Entegris was formed in 1999 from the merger of Fluoroware and Empak and sits in Billerica, Massachusetts. Instead of machines it sells what surrounds them: the FOUP carriers that wafers travel in, filters, gas and liquid delivery systems, specialty chemicals, and — after buying CMC Materials in 2022 — slurries for chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP).

The point is contamination control. At modern nodes, impurities are counted in single atoms, and one particle in the wrong place ruins the chip. Entegris materials pass through nearly every step inside a foundry, mostly unseen, making it one of the most pervasive yet least visible suppliers to both the packaging and wafer makers.
