Guerrilla's engine behind Killzone and Horizon — and the one Hideo Kojima borrowed after leaving Konami.
It debuted, still unnamed, in Killzone Shadow Fall, a PlayStation 4 launch title in 2013, and went on to run Horizon Zero Dawn (2017) with its open world, day–night cycle and procedurally placed vegetation.
The name only arrived in 2016, when Kojima Productions picked the engine for Death Stranding. Decima refers to Dejima, the Dutch trading post in Nagasaki harbour — a nod to the partnership between Dutch Guerrilla and Japanese Kojima. Kojima had just come from Konami and Fox Engine, which he wasn't allowed to take with him. Sony owns Decima and doesn't license it out.
