A French game engine where logic is built in a grid of conditions and actions rather than in code.

Clickteam's founders included François Lionet, who had already written STOS and AMOS. The line began with Klik & Play in 1994 and ran through The Games Factory in 1996 and Multimedia Fusion in 1998 to Clickteam Fusion 2.5 in 2013. At its heart is the event editor: rows of conditions ("when the player touches an enemy") against columns of objects, where you tick what should happen.

It sounds like a toy, and that is exactly how many people first used it. Then Scott Cawthon made Five Nights at Freddy's in Fusion in 2014, and the schoolkids' tool was suddenly the origin of one of the decade's biggest indie franchises. Much the same journey GameMaker made.
