Intel's AI-based temporal upscaler that renders at low resolution and reconstructs a sharper image — Intel's answer to DLSS and FSR.

XeSS (Xe Super Sampling) was announced by Intel in 2021 and launched in 2022 alongside the Arc graphics cards. Like DLSS and FSR, it renders the scene at a lower resolution and uses motion vectors and previous frames to reconstruct an image at the target resolution — a neural network does the reconstruction.

The clever part is that XeSS has two paths: on Intel's own cards the network runs on the XMX matrix engines, while a broader but slower DP4a path works on other vendors' GPUs. The SDK is open source. The goal is the same as its rivals' — higher frame rates without the resolution appearing to suffer.
