Audio middleware from Canada's Audiokinetic that lets sound designers build game audio without queueing for a programmer.

Game code fires events and sets parameters – "footstep", "surface = gravel", "health = 12" – and Wwise decides which sound plays, how it is mixed and what it sounds like through a wall. The logic lives in its own authoring tool, where the audio team can change anything while the game is running. It is the same division of labour its rival FMOD offers, and between them the two have more or less carved up the AAA market.

Audiokinetic was founded in Montreal in 2000 and bought by Sony in 2019; Wwise is still sold for every platform. Integrations exist for Unity and Unreal Engine. Licensing is free below a budget threshold, which explains why so many indie credits end with the same logo.
