Chinese ODM, tied to Tsinghua University, behind a large share of the world's cheaper laptops.
Founded in 1997 as a spin-off from Tsinghua University in Beijing. Among laptop enthusiasts, "Tongfang" — like Clevo — is a catch-all for the unbranded chassis that surface under a long list of budget and mid-range names.
The group is broader than that — electronics, medical technology, nuclear engineering — but it hit financial trouble and was handed around 2019 to the state-owned China Reform Holdings. The university spin-off ended up state-owned.
