The world's largest connector maker, spun out of Tyco with roots in post-war AMP.
The story starts with AMP (Aircraft-Marine Products), founded in 1941 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, by Uncas Whitaker — the pioneer of the solderless crimped terminal, which made electrical assembly faster and more reliable. Tyco bought AMP in 1999, and in 2011 the business was spun off as a public company under the name TE Connectivity.
Today TE is the world's largest connector maker, weighted toward automotive, industrial and data-centre electronics, with a big sensor arm alongside. A connector is the kind of part nobody thinks about until one goes intermittent.
