Connector maker whose name stuck to the power plug inside every older PC.
Molex was founded in 1938 in Illinois by Frederick Krehbiel and was originally named after a plastic material the company made; out of it came first moulded plastic parts and then electrical connectors. The four-pin white nylon plug that fed power to hard drives and optical drives in desktop PCs is still called a "Molex" after the maker, even though SATA power has largely displaced it.
In 2013 Molex was bought by Koch Industries and taken private. Few companies have had their name pinned so firmly to a single connector.
