High-end server

HP's mainframe-class server from 2000 — PA-RISC, then Itanium, now x86, and still at the heavy end of the server room.

Superdome was HP's high-end server, launched in 2000 for workloads an ordinary rack server couldn't carry. It first ran PA-RISC and HP-UX, moved to Itanium in the Integrity Superdome, and lives on today as the x86-based Superdome Flex at HPE. The machine can be carved into several hardware-isolated partitions, hence the name. It was HP's answer to the question of what you do when a ProLiant isn't enough.
