A 3D game engine written in C# all the way down, core to editor — the third name for what started out as Paradox and then Xenko.
Japan's Silicon Studio launched it as Paradox in the mid-2010s, renamed it Xenko, and released the source under the MIT license in 2018 as it stepped away. Trademark trouble forced another rename in 2020, to Stride. Since then it has been maintained by volunteers under the .NET Foundation.
What sets it apart from Unity is that C# isn't just the scripting language but the whole engine, so anyone wanting to change the renderer does it in the same language as their game code. Stride has an ECS-style scene model, Vulkan and Direct3D backends and its own shader dialect. It got a burst of attention in 2023, when Unity's fee announcement sent developers shopping for alternatives.
