Ardent's mirror image on the other coast — the same graphics supercomputer, built by the man behind Prime and Apollo.
Founded in 1985 in Newton, Massachusetts, by William Poduska, who had already started Prime Computer and Apollo Computer — this was his third. The GS1000 (1988) was a graphics supercomputer with a single powerful processor and built-in visualisation, aimed at the same scientific market as Ardent's Titan. Two well-funded companies building identical machines for too small a market ended as you'd expect: in 1989 Stellar and Ardent merged into Stardent.
