Project management that looks like a spreadsheet — rows, columns and Gantt views for everyone who already thinks in cells but wants automations and permissions on top.
Founded in 2005 in Bellevue, Washington, with Mark Mader its long-serving CEO. The angle has never changed: most people already run their projects in Excel, so give them a shared, cloud-hosted sheet with real collaboration controls — Gantt charts, card views, forms and rule-based workflows — without forcing them into a new mental model.
The company went public on the NYSE in 2018 and was taken private again in 2024–25 by Blackstone and Vista Equity Partners for just over eight billion dollars. It lives in the same neighbourhood as monday.com and Airtable, but courts an audience that would rather stay close to the spreadsheet than learn a colourful board.
