Simplygon
Swedish middleware that generates the coarser LOD versions of 3D models automatically, so artists don't have to build them by hand.
Every model in a modern game needs several simplified variants that swap in as it recedes into the distance. Building them manually is tedious, expensive and therefore done badly. Simplygon, developed by Donya Labs in Linköping, does it with mesh simplification that tries to preserve silhouettes, UV seams and skinning weights, and it can also merge whole clusters of objects into a single proxy mesh with its own texture — the basis of HLOD.
It became standard kit across much of the AAA industry and was bought by Microsoft in 2017. It is one of the few pieces of Swedish game tech that most players have used without ever hearing the name.
