Website

Fabless semiconductor company that makes controllers for NAND flash — Phison's main competitor.

Founded in 1995 and listed on the Nasdaq as SIMO. Like Phison, Silicon Motion rarely sells to end customers; its SM controllers (the SM2262, SM2264) sit inside NVMe SSDs from a range of brands, as well as in the eMMC and UFS storage in phones. Two companies thus share the brains of most of the world's consumer SSDs, while the NAND silicon itself comes from Samsung, Micron and a few others.
