Taiwanese maker of controllers for SSDs, USB drives and memory cards — invisible, but in almost everything.
Founded in 2000 in Zhunan; co-founder Pua Khein-Seng helped develop one of the first single-chip controllers for USB flash drives. Phison rarely ships products under its own name — instead its controllers (the E18, E26) sit inside countless SSDs from other brands, often as a turnkey reference design that a smaller player slaps its label on. Its main rival is Silicon Motion in the fight over who runs the NAND flash behind the scenes.
