The largest pure-play automation vendor in the US, home of Allen-Bradley PLCs and the Logix platform.

The roots lie in Allen-Bradley, founded in 1903 in Milwaukee by Lynde Bradley and Stanton Allen. Rockwell International acquired it in 1985 and spun the automation arm off as the independent Rockwell Automation in 2001. The flagships are the ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers, programmed in Studio 5000, with FactoryTalk handling visualisation and production data.

The company drives the EtherNet/IP industrial-Ethernet standard along with the older DeviceNet and ControlNet fieldbuses through the ODVA consortium. The Allen-Bradley name still rides on the hardware long after its founders did — one of the rare brands to outlive the parent that bought it.
