A Finnish studio with demoscene roots that turned bullet time into a game mechanic with Max Payne.

Remedy was founded in Espoo in 1995 by members of the demo group Future Crew, and the technical chops were there from day one. Its first game was Death Rally (1996), published by Apogee. Backed by 3D Realms came Max Payne (2001), whose slow-motion gunfights and comic-book panels became the genre's reference point. Writer Sami Järvi, better known as Sam Lake, even lent his own face to the protagonist.

Later games such as Alan Wake (2010) and Control (2019) run on the in-house Northlight engine and share an interlinked fictional universe. Remedy is listed in Helsinki and still independent, which is unusual for a studio its size.
