Apogee's 3D label, which made Duke Nukem 3D and then spent fourteen years not finishing the sequel.

Apogee introduced the brand in 1994 for its three-dimensional games. Duke Nukem 3D (1996) ran on Ken Silverman's Build engine and was one of the few shooters that held its own in the shadow of Doom and Quake. The studio also funded and produced Remedy's Max Payne (2001).

Duke Nukem Forever was announced in 1997 and switched engines several times as the technology kept outrunning it. The development team was laid off in 2009, and Gearbox finally shipped the game in 2011 to lukewarm reviews. It remains the go-to example whenever someone needs to explain the word vaporware.
