The terminal program that started as shareware from Missouri and ended up as a Symantec product in corporate modem pools.
Datastorm Technologies of Columbia, Missouri, released Procomm as shareware in the mid-1980s. The commercial follow-up, Procomm Plus, added the ASPECT scripting language, more terminal emulations and a manual thick enough to prop up a modem. Among BBS users it was one of the obvious picks, and in offices it became the standard tool for dialling into everything from mainframes to router console ports.
Quarterdeck bought Datastorm in the mid-1990s and the product later landed at Symantec. By then the browser was already replacing the terminal window, but Procomm hung on for years among network engineers with a serial cable in their bag.
