Dell's 2020 midrange storage array that folded Compellent, Unity and VNX into a single line.
PowerStore shipped in 2020 as Dell EMC's attempt to replace a messy spread of inherited arrays — Compellent (SC), Unity and VNX — with one platform. Its operating system is container-based and runs on Kubernetes, built on NVMe flash and offering both scale-up and scale-out.
Its oddest feature is AppsON: an embedded VMware ESXi lets the array run virtual machines directly on the storage node, so light compute can sit next to the data instead of on separate servers. Few rivals do the same, and it owes as much to the 2016 EMC acquisition as to any fresh engineering.
