Pivot point

Programming På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-26

The point in an object about which it rotates, scales and is positioned — a sprite's zero point against its own texture.

Put the pivot at a sprite's feet and the figure rotates about its feet; put it in the centre and it spins in place. The pivot also decides where the object's world position lands on the image — set it at the feet and you can plant a character exactly on the ground without doing arithmetic on the image height. 2D engines like Unity and Godot let you move the pivot freely per sprite, and a well-chosen one simplifies both animation and placement enormously. Don't confuse it with the anchor, which governs how a UI element attaches to its parent — the pivot is about the object's own origin.
