LDAC

Hardware På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-28

Sony's 2015 Bluetooth codec, promising wireless hi-res audio by pushing up to 990 kbit/s through a radio link that would rather do less.

LDAC can carry 24-bit audio at 96 kHz and has three modes: 330, 660 and 990 kbit/s. Sony contributed the encoder to Android 8.0, so most Android phones can transmit LDAC; the decoder remains proprietary and lives in headphones from Sony and its licensees.

The top mode needs a clean radio environment, and on a crowded commuter train the link often drops to a lower rate or stutters. Many phones therefore default to an adaptive mode. Whether the difference from aptX HD is audible through wireless earbuds is a question forums have spent countless threads on.
