Iñigo Quílez

På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-03

Spanish graphics programmer, "iq" on the scene, who carried demoscene procedural graphics into the wider industry.

Quílez was active in the demo group RGBA and did the visuals for Elevated, the 4k intro that won at Breakpoint 2009 and is still the go-to proof of what 4096 bytes can buy. The technique — terrain built from noise, scenes drawn by raymarching against distance functions — became his signature.

In 2013 he co-founded Shadertoy with Pol Jeremias, and his articles on distance functions are now the standard reference for anyone drawing geometry inside a fragment shader. Along the way he worked at Pixar and co-created the VR painting tool Quill. Few people have done more to get sizecoding tricks onto university syllabi.
