A Haxe game engine from the man who wrote Haxe, best known as the machinery under Dead Cells.
Nicolas Cannasse created both the Haxe language and Heaps, and used the engine at his own studio, Shiro Games, for titles such as Northgard. Its biggest moment in the spotlight, though, came via Motion Twin's Dead Cells (2018).
Heaps is closer to a framework than a drag-and-drop engine: 2D and 3D, its own shader language, no heavyweight editor. Code compiles to the web or to HashLink, Cannasse's virtual machine, which can in turn be translated to C for consoles. The pitch is simple — one language, many targets — and the price is a tiny ecosystem next to Unity.
