Farbrausch

German coder, known on the scene as ryg, who built Farbrausch's packer and capture tool and later took his compression skills into the games industry.

Giesen was one of the technical engines of Farbrausch. He wrote kkrunchy, the executable packer that was the default for Windows 64k intros for more than a decade, and kkapture, which records a demo to video by convincing it that time passes exactly as fast as it should. He also coded on .kkrieger, the 96 KB shooter.

After the scene years he joined RAD Game Tools to work on the Oodle compression libraries, and went along when Epic Games bought the company in 2021. Outside the scene he is best known for the blog series A trip through the Graphics Pipeline (2011), still passed around as the clearest account of what a GPU actually does between the draw call and the pixel.
