Type
iSCSI storage (SAN)

The iSCSI storage whose scale-out peer architecture became Dell's first big storage acquisition in 2008.

EqualLogic, founded in 2001, made iSCSI-based SAN arrays in its PS Series. The distinctive part was the peer architecture: every array was an equal, and new units joined a shared pool that grew in both capacity and performance without the admin having to shuffle data around. Dell bought the company in 2008 for about $1.4 billion — its largest acquisition to that point — and three years later added Compellent for the heavier end of the range.
