Enigma (demo)

På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-03

Swedish group Phenomena's 1991 Amiga demo, remembered as much for its soundtrack as for its filled vectors.

Enigma appeared in 1991 and became one of the most widely copied demos on the Amiga. Technically it offered fast filled-vector objects and seamless transitions where each part flowed into the next, rather than the usual one-effect-then-a-pause structure of the day. The music, by the group's musicians Tip and Firefox, took on a life well beyond the scene and has been remixed more times than anyone has counted.

It tends to be mentioned alongside Spaceballs' State of the Art as a sign that the early-90s Amiga scene had started caring about the whole — pacing, design, rhythm — and not just how many bobs fit on screen. The name has nothing to do with the rotor machine.
