Embark Studios

På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-22

The Stockholm studio where DICE veterans tried to make game development cheaper with procedural generation and machine learning — and got both hits and rows for it.

Patrick Söderlund, former head of DICE and later chief design officer at Electronic Arts, founded Embark in 2018 with a group of old colleagues. South Korea's Nexon came in as an investor and bought the whole company in 2019. The studio made a name early on with tools for generating worlds and animation, and has released open-source work in Rust.

Its first game, The Finals (December 2023), is a free-to-play team shooter in which almost the entire map can be blown apart, built on Unreal Engine. It drew criticism for using synthetic AI voices instead of actors. The extraction shooter Arc Raiders followed in October 2025 and became a major commercial hit.
