Swedish studio that went from Amiga pinball to Battlefield, and built an engine half of EA was then told to use.

Digital Illusions was founded in 1992 by four young demosceners in Växjö and had a hit the same year with Pinball Dreams on the Amiga. The real breakthrough came in 2002 with Battlefield 1942, a war game where vehicles and infantry shared the same large map. Electronic Arts bought in gradually and took full ownership in 2006; the studio has been based in Stockholm ever since.

DICE built the Frostbite engine, which debuted in 2008 and was later made EA's house engine – including for genres it was never designed for, with well-documented consequences. Mirror's Edge and Star Wars Battlefront came out of the same building, as did the notoriously broken launch of Battlefield 2042.
