A Southern California CDN that changed hands more often than most people change routers.

Edgecast was founded in 2006 in the Los Angeles area and built a textbook CDN: cache servers at exchange points around the world, anycast routing and a self-service control panel — unusual at a time when Akamai sold through account managers and contract negotiations. It became a popular wholesaler for others who wanted to resell CDN under their own brand.

Verizon bought Edgecast at the end of 2013 and turned it into Verizon Digital Media Services. When Verizon sold its media arm to Apollo in 2021 the network ended up under Yahoo, and in 2022 it was sold on to Limelight Networks. Four owners in under a decade, and after the last deal even the buyer changed its name.
