David Whittaker

På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-03

One of the most prolific game composers of the 1980s, with music for hundreds of titles on the C64, Spectrum and Amiga.

David Whittaker wrote at a pace few could match. On the Commodore 64, Lazy Jones (1984) is his best-known work, not least because its in-game tune became a remix favourite in scene music. He wrote his own player routines and ported them between platforms, which explains part of the output.

On the Amiga he scored Shadow of the Beast and Speedball, where samples replaced the synth chips' waveforms. He later moved to the US and worked on audio for larger studios — the same route many of Britain's home-computer composers took once games became an industry.
