An open 3D physics engine by Erwin Coumans — as at home in Hollywood VFX as in Blender and robotics simulation.

Erwin Coumans released Bullet around 2005 under the permissive zlib license. Unlike Havok and PhysX, it was free and open from the start, which made it popular well beyond games: Blender uses it for physics, film studios for visual effects, and robotics researchers for simulation (via PyBullet).

It handles rigid- and soft-body dynamics, collision detection and ragdolls in three dimensions. Coumans later worked on physics simulation at Google, among others.
