Erin Catto's 2D physics library from 2007 — the engine behind Angry Birds and a whole generation of indie games.

Written in C++ by Erin Catto and released in 2007 under an MIT license. It simulates rigid bodies in two dimensions using a sequential-impulse solver that became the textbook example of fast, stable collision response. Rovio built Angry Birds on it; Playdead used it in Limbo.

Catto also gave annual GDC talks that schooled an entire industry in physics programming. It is 2D only — for three dimensions you reached for Bullet or PhysX.
