Ardit Ferizi

Security På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-18

A Kosovar hacker who became the first person in the US convicted of terrorism over a data breach.

Ardit Ferizi led the group Kosova Hacker's Security and was studying in Malaysia when, in 2015, he broke into a server belonging to a US online retailer. From the customer database he filtered out roughly 1,350 people with military or government addresses and passed the list to Junaid Hussain, the Islamic State's best-known hacker-recruiter. Hussain published it as a "kill list" and urged followers to act on it.

Ferizi was arrested in Malaysia that autumn, extradited, and in 2016 sentenced to 20 years for providing material support to a terrorist organisation. The intrusion itself was unremarkable; the recipient set the sentence. The case is now the reference point for where doxxing ends and terrorism begins.
