Rotor order
The Walzenlage was which rotors an Enigma used and in what order, part of the daily key.
The Wehrmacht Enigma had five rotors, of which three were chosen and placed in a set order each day. That gives 60 possible choices, one of the basic parts of the key space. The naval M4 had eight rotors, and a thinner fourth rotor, which gave far more combinations.
The rotor order was listed on the key sheets distributed to units and changed daily. It was one of the parts of the procedure where a single table could be lost or copied, which made it a target for intelligence services.
