Dell EMC's hyperconverged appliance that bundles the VMware hypervisor, software-defined storage and servers into a single managed unit.
Launched in 2016 and jointly engineered by Dell EMC and VMware. It runs vSphere (the hypervisor) plus vSAN (software-defined storage) on PowerEdge servers, managed as one system; VxRail Manager handles lifecycle and firmware as a single stack.
It became the flagship hyperconverged product of the merged Dell EMC (also 2016) — the prebuilt answer to assembling your own cluster from separate compute, storage and networking. Its main rival is Nutanix.
