Vultr launched in Florida in 2014 as part of the hosting firm Constant and plays in the same league as DigitalOcean, Linode and Hetzner: simple VPS instances at a flat monthly price, around thirty data centres worldwide, and an API you can understand without a certification. The range has since grown to dedicated servers, managed Kubernetes and object storage.
When the AI boom arrived, the company bet heavily on Nvidia GPU capacity, and its valuation followed. The pitch hasn't changed: everything AWS does, minus the two hundred services most people never touch.
