The browser company Opera's co-founder started once Opera stopped being the browser he wanted to use.

Jon von Tetzchner left Opera Software in 2011, and when Opera abandoned its own engine in 2013 and rebuilt itself as a leaner Chromium browser, he founded Vivaldi Technologies with offices in Norway and Iceland. The target audience was explicitly the users Opera had left behind: people who wanted tab stacks, mouse gestures and forty settings for every button.

Vivaldi runs on Chromium with an interface of its own, and the first stable release shipped in 2016. The company has since bolted mail, calendar and a feed reader into the same program, making it something like the old Opera suite reborn. Its market share is small; its users' loyalty is not.
