viewres
A graphical map of the Athena widget class hierarchy, showing the resources each class inherits and adds.
Xt is object-oriented C, with classes inheriting resources from their parents: a Command is a Label is a Simple is a Core. Working out which resources a button actually had meant following that chain through several man pages. viewres draws the tree from Object downwards as a clickable graph, and for a selected class lists its resources along with the ancestor that introduced each one.
Its sibling listres prints the same information as text. Both know only the Xaw widgets, since the hierarchy is compiled in rather than discovered — Motif developers had to make do with their binders. Where editres looks inside a running program, viewres shows the blueprint, and together they were about as close as Athena ever got to developer tooling.
