Code review as a service, originally built on analysing compiled binaries instead of source.

Two L0pht alumni, Chris Wysopal and Christien Rioux, founded Veracode in Massachusetts in 2006. The unusual part was the method: customers uploaded compiled code and Veracode ran static analysis on the binary. That meant you could audit third-party software without the vendor ever handing over its source.

CA Technologies bought the company in 2017, it came along when Broadcom acquired CA, and was sold on to Thoma Bravo within a year. The changes of ownership have continued since. The product now also covers DAST and dependency scanning, competing with Checkmarx and Snyk.
